Cloud migration without the rewrite

LN Engineering6 min read

A phased approach to moving workloads to cloud—cutover plans, risk controls, and what to modernize later.

Cloud migration fails most often when teams treat it as a single cutover event. The safer path is sequenced: inventory, dependency mapping, pilot workloads, then controlled waves.

Start with outcomes—cost, latency, compliance, and release speed—then decide what to rehost, replatform, or leave temporarily on-prem. Not every system needs a rewrite on day one.

Operational readiness matters as much as architecture. Monitoring, IAM, backup/restore drills, and runbooks should land before production traffic moves.

When migration is done well, you gain elasticity and clearer ownership—without freezing product delivery for months.
